Indy Fresh Market was conceived from the need to bring a full-service grocery store to a neighborhood formerly classified as a food desert. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Cook Medical, Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana, Central Indiana Community Foundation, the City of Indianapolis and numerous other contributors, this partnership has resulted in the creation of a premier grocery store that will cater to the Eastside of Indianapolis, providing employment opportunities as well as convenient and easy access to fresh foods.
We are grateful to Michael McFarland and Marckus Williams, two local entrepreneurs, for their help in getting Indy Fresh Market up and running. Since the opening of the store, Michael and Markcus have moved away from daily operations and have taken an advisory role with Indy Fresh Market. Recently, Cook asked Goodwill to use their expertise in operations and retail stores to stabilize the Indy Fresh Market and make several changes that customers have asked for. Goodwill’s role expanded accordingly to include the day-to-day operations of Indy Fresh Market, resulting in a pay increase for employees as well as full health benefits.
We’re exceedingly proud to have helped the community address this critical need and are looking forward to continuing to be your neighborhood grocery store.
